The Seattle Seahawks submitted their initial 53-man roster on Sunday. Roster cutdown day is always busy for the defending Super Bowl champions. The Seahawks had to make some difficult decisions, including waiving linebacker Jared Ivey.
The waiver wire process proceeded on Monday. The Seahawks' roster is so good that they were always destined to lose at least one player. Unfortunately, Ivey was claimed by the Atlanta Falcons. Surely the Seahawks wanted him back on the practice squad.
Ivey had made a successful transition to outside linebacker for the Seahawks earlier this offseason. The former Ole Miss standout was very productive throughout the preseason, registering six pressures and 12 total tackles via 129 defensive snaps. The Falcons are adding
a quality player.
Had Ivey cleared waivers, the Seahawks certainly would have added him to their 17-man practice squad. Highlights of the practice squad include cornerback Trevon Diggs, and draft picks Andre Fuller, Deven Eastern, Michael Dansby, and Emmanuel Henderson Jr.
The Seahawks developed Ivey, but he'll now take the lessons he learned with him to Atlanta. The Falcons possessed the 13th priority in the waiver wire order. Great teams lose good players to rebuilding teams on cutdown day. Ivey is now an Atlanta Falcon.
