Does the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl outlook remain unchanged despite Sam Darnold’s early-season glute injury?
CBS Sports’ Carter Bahns maintains that Seattle still has the roster and structure to contend for another championship in 2026, despite Darnold being hurt.
“Even better news for the Seahawks is that Sam Darnold might return to action this week,” Bahns said. “…Assuming the offense is back at full strength no later than Week 4, the Seahawks have a good chance of remaining undefeated in time for Darnold's return. They cannot ask for much more than that.”
Darnold’s injury forced the Seahawks to lean on veteran backup Drew Lock for the last two weeks. The injury created immediate concern for the team, who relies on Darnold to orchestrate its
offense with his great level of command and playmaking, but Seattle has rallied around Lock in his incredibly efficient play to begin the year, indicating that the team is still operating with championship DNA despite the early turn of events.
Outside of the Seahawks’ quarterback situation, the team’s defense remains capable of dominating games, as it has in both of its matchups this year. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is playing sensationally to begin the year as well, and Seattle’s offensive supporting cast has also done its job. Darnold’s absence has not thrown off the Seahawks and plunged them into a hole that dampens their Super Bowl outlook, as they are undefeated at 2-0 with Lock as the starter.
The Seahawks will now look keep winning until Darnold returns, and hit their stride with the return of running back Zach Charbonnet expected to happen later in the season. Seattle appears primed to preserve its place among the league’s top Super Bowl contenders moving forward.
