The Seattle Seahawks are 2-1 on the year following their 33-31 road loss to the Washington Commanders. Seattle stumbled on both sides of the ball and dug themselves a hole they ultimately could not climb out from. If this loss feels a little worse than normal, it's because it is, and it's not just due to the 12-game win streak ending.
According to ESPN research, as noted by Brady Henderson, this was the worst Seahawks loss in terms of a point spread since the 2020 season. Seattle was an 8.5-point favorite going into Week 3, which we at Seahawks Wire noted in our predictions, picks and betting odds article earlier on Sunday morning. Back in 2020, the Seahawks were 10.5-point favorites over a New York Giants team that would finish the season 6-10.
Seattle lost that game 17-12
Sunday's loss to the Commanders is eerily similar, in a way no 12 wants to think about. Back then, the Giants were led by backup quarterback Colt McCoy. This was McCoy's second of three career wins over the Seahawks, and he ultimately did so with three different teams.
Fast forward to Week 3 of the 2026 season, the Seahawks lost to backup Marcus Mariota, who improved to 3-0 as a starter against Seattle... also with three different teams.
For whatever reason, the Seahawks struggle against backups. This was a problem in the Pete Carroll era, and it has once again reared its ugly head under Mike Macdonald.
