Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba enters Week 3 with a chance to continue his hot start to the year and reach a receiving touchdowns feat against the Washington Commanders.
NFL.com’s Raza Umerani has projected Smith-Njigba to add three touchdowns to his season tally on Sunday, which will give him seven on the season.
”No player in NFL history has caught seven touchdown passes in the first three weeks of a season,” Umerani said. “In an encore of last week, Smith-Njigba will snag three more scores against the Commanders to become the first one to do so. Washington has allowed the most touchdown passes (seven) in the NFL through two weeks, and it's the only team to have allowed three different players to catch two touchdowns in a game
against it. JSN is going to have a historic field day just east of the nation's capital.”
Washington’s defense has struggled against the pass early in the season. The Commanders have allowed 482 passing yards to opponents this year and have surrendered the most passing touchdowns in the league with seven, putting added pressure on a secondary facing a productive Seattle receiving corps.
Smith-Njigba has totaled 17 catches for 277 yards and four touchdowns. He opened the year with eight receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, then followed that up with nine catches for 155 yards and three scores in Week 2. His ability to create explosive plays and finish drives has made him a premier touchdown scoring option and puts him in position to have a big day in the touchdowns department in Week 3.
