How does Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba stack up against the best wide receivers in the NFL after one week of action?
Smith-Njigba had one of the best performances at the position in Week 1. He carried over his play as the AP Offensive Player of the Year from last season into the opener against the New England Patriots and went for 122 receiving yards on eight receptions in the win. He had his highs and lows throughout the game, but he delivered late when it mattered and helped Seattle win. Though other receivers across the league had great games as well in their own right, JSN showed why he is an elite wide receiver in the NFL.
Pro Football Focus ranked Smith-Njigba No. 2 overall in their wide receiver rankings following
the Week 1 slate of games.
“Smith-Njigba picked up right where he left off last season with a big showing in the Seahawks’ season-opening win over the New England Patriots,” PFF’s Gordon McGuinness said. “He saw a 45.8% target share, averaged 4.69 yards per route run and forced a pair of missed tackles. And he did it all with a backup quarterback throwing him the ball for most of the night.”
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua (No. 1) was the only receiver ranked ahead of Smith-Niigba.
JSN heads into Week 2 still in great standing among his peers, even considering the fact that one game is too little to go off of to make great conclusions. A like performance or better in Week 2 will further enforce that his big year in 2025 may be the norm for him moving forward.
