The Seattle Seahawks made the difficult decision to let running back Kenneth Walker III leave in free agency. The Super Bowl LX MVP signed a three-year, $43 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Walker currently leads the league in rushing heading into Week 5.
Choosing to let Walker leave is looking like an offseason mistake. After extensions for Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs, he isn't even a top-8 paid RB in the NFL. Walker's contract is looking very team-friendly in KC.
Walker has rushed for a league-high 537 yards. He's totally revitalizing a Chiefs offense that struggled to run the football effectively last season. The second-place leading rusher (Bijan Robinson) isn't even within 40 yards of Walker (494).
Walker has also scored six
total touchdowns (four rushing, two receiving). The Chiefs rank third in the NFL in rushing. Meanwhile, the Seahawks are playing musical chairs with running backs. By comparison, the Seahawks offense ranks 13th in rushing.
Seahawks GM John Schneider is probably regretting siding with the "Don't pay RBs" crowd. The Chiefs certainly don't have any regrets over paying Walker this offseason. Brian Fleury's Seahawks offense misses a true No. 1 RB immensely. Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet need to make impacts when they return.
