The Seattle Seahawks are bringing in veteran running back Joe Mixon for a visit later today. Jay Glazer announced the news on FOX NFL Sunday around 9:52 a.m. PDT while giving final injury updates ahead of Week 4’s main slate.
Mixon hasn’t played since 2024, but has been one of the NFL’s better workhorses in the eight seasons he’s played. He spent seven years with the Cincinnati Bengals and one with the Houston Texans, rushing for more than 1,000 yards and 4.0 yards per carry in five of those seasons. His experience makes him a known commodity, and the visit gives the Seahawks a chance to see just how much explosive juice he still has left.
Mixon’s massive 6-foot-1 frame and 220-pound build have allowed him to age effectively compared to other
backs. He’s also been an excellent receiver out of the backfield, with 2,161 career receiving yards. His size even makes him a decent pass blocker. His skillset and track record are closer to that of an every-down back than any of the team’s current options.
The Seahawks placed rookie RB Jadarian Price on Injured Reserve (IR) yesterday with a shoulder injury. They drafted Price to replace Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III’s early-down workload, but he suffered from a chest injury and fumbled in both Week 2 and Week 3. Veteran Zach Charbonnet began his 21-day practice window on Thursday, after which he’ll require a roster spot. Free agent signing Emanuel Wilson has taken control of the early down work in the meantime, while George Holani handles 3rd downs.
While Mixon could give their run game a fresh look in Week 5, the Seahawks will have to handle their Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers first. Stay tuned to seahawkswire.usatoday.com and @TheSeahawksWire on X for further updates on both fronts.
