The Seattle Seahawks were totally dismantled by the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, losing 34-17 in Week 8. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold once again played poorly. Darnold's performances are becoming a worrying trend.
Darnold completed 17-of-34 passing attempts for 188 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He had a second INT wiped out by a fortunate penalty. Darnold completed just 50% of his attempts and was held under 200 passing yards.
It's worth noting QB1 was also under constant duress. In Quenton Nelson's debut, the Seahawks definitely lost the battle of the trenches to the new-look Bears, who had Jeffery Simmons making his own debut. But Darnold played poorly independent of that.
Darnold averaged a season-low 5.5 yards
per attempt. He had an identical 5.5 YPA outing two weeks ago versus the Denver Broncos. He's thrown at least one interception in six consecutive weeks, with a 1:1 TD:INT ratio (9 TDs, 9 INTs).
Darnold also isn't navigating pressure well. HIs pressure-to-sack rate was 21.4%, according to Pro Football Focus. It's 17.7% on the campaign. Last season, it was 15.0%.
When Drew Lock was the starting quarterback earlier this season, he outproduced Darnold in literally every metric. The Seahawks probably don't feel like they can bench Darnold, understandably so after they won Super Bowl LX last season. But Darnold is not playing well.
