The Seattle Seahawks put forth a dominant defensive performance in Wednesday's 13-10 Week 1 victory over the New England Patriots. In a Super Bowl LX rematch, the Seahawks suffocated the Patriots' offense once again. Veteran safety Julian Love was among the standout performers.
Love was credited with making six total tackles. The former Notre Dame standout was also one of three Seahawks defenders to intercept Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. Love's interception totally helped swing momentum in Seattle's favor.
Love also registered a pass breakup. Pro Football Focus rewarded Love with a 90.0 overall grade for his performance, with an 89.4 score in coverage. Through two NFL games, only San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner (92.2) has graded
out better.
Love rose to the occasion in a major spot. The Seahawks were without starting safeties Nick Emmanwori and Ty Okada versus the Patriots due to injury. Love stepped up and performed exactly how Mike Macdonald needed him to.
Love continues to be an underappreciated member of this elite Seahawks defense. He's a model of consistency, displaying a versatile skill set in coverage and as a run defender. Love played a lights-out game versus the Patriots. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.
