Seattle Seahawks star Sam Darnold is worth adding off of the waiver-wire for fantasy managers looking for quarterback depth after he turned in a productive performance in Week 3 upon returning to the lineup from injury.
Darnold completed 31 of 45 passes for 379 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 3. The gaudy stat line was what will help fantasy football team managers win games in tight matchups. Darnold may not put up those numbers every game, as is to be expected, but another 4,000-yard season was reasonable to have been expected of him heading into the year, and with only two games missed, he’s still in line to flirt with, or achieve that total.
His appeal is strongest in deep leagues and two-quarterback formats, though his
prowess as a rushing threat prevents him from being even more valuable compared to the likes of elite dual-threat quarterbacks. Darnold is also a practical short-term replacement for managers dealing with injuries at the position, including those who have Jaxson Dart or Jayden Daniels on their rosters.
Darnold may not be an automatic starter in standard one-quarterback leagues. Still, his starting job, volume yardage and touchdown potential make him a sensible addition. Managers in need of immediate help ought to consider claiming him in short order.
