The Seattle Seahawks look like they will go back-to-back as Super Bowl champions this season after the first two weeks of the year have unfolded. The Seahawks’ undefeated start to the year has come by way of the team’s deep roster and a defense that has controlled games in multiple ways.
Seattle’s defense has set an early standard, holding firm against the run and pass and keeping scoring totals remarkably low. The unit has allowed only 17 total points scored to opponents thus far, and has gotten stellar play from Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy in the interior, as well as contributions from a host of other players including Julian Love, who is tied for the league lead in interceptions with two, and Josh Jobe, among others.
Seattle’s defense
is playing like the standard-setting unit in the league, and that is working to their advantage in the early Super Bowl forecast.
The Seahawks have also played well offensively, even without Sam Darnold healthy. The offense has benefited from steady quarterback play from Drew Lock, and productive skill-position play next to a sweltering start from the NFL’s receiving yards leader Jaxon Smith-Njigba. With more room to grow, a potential emergence from Rashid Shaheed or AJ Barner next to JSN in the receiving game, and Zach Charbonnet’s looming return from injury, the Seahawks project to be scary good at full strength.
Seattle remains among the league’s undefeated teams and appears to have an edge in the Super Bowl race ahead of the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers. The Buffalo Bills have also looked strikingly dangerous, especially offensively, but the Seahawks’ balance gives them a compelling edge. The Seahawks look to be set for another Vince Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season through two weeks.
