The Seattle Seahawks made the aggressive decision to re-sign wide receiver Rashid Shaheed to a three-year, $51 million contract before he hit free agency. That's an average of $17 million per season. The dual-threat special teams playmaker played a pivotal role in the Seahawks' Super Bowl triumph.
Shaheed's lofty price tag arrived with new expectations. Everyone thought he'd play a far larger role on offense as a result. Heading into Week 4, that hasn't been the case yet. The Seahawks need more production from Shaheed.
The former Weber State standout has recorded six receptions for 53 yards and zero touchdowns in three appearances. Shaheed has been more of a manufactured touch merchant. He's averaging just 8.8 yards per reception, and has generated
just one explosive play.
Shaheed has caught just 54.5% of his targets (6-of-11). His yards per route run (Y/RR) is under 1.00 (0.82), and his average depth of target (aDOT) is 8.2, per Pro Football Focus. Shaheed has also been credited with two drops. The Seahawks haven't put him in spots to make explosive plays.
This Seahawks offense needs to get Shaheed going versus the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. His extension was too expensive for such little production.
