Easily the biggest storyline to follow with the Seattle Seahawks right now is the health of starting quarterback Sam Darnold. During the season opener on Wednesday night, Sam Darnold went down on the fifth play of the game with a hip injury and did not return. Darnold eventually left the stadium and went to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he received x-rays and a CT scan. The initial results ruled out a fracture, which Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald announced after the 13-10 victory.
Further information was given on Thursday morning following Darnold's MRI, which allowed the Seahawks to breathe a sigh of relief for "dodging a bullet." Seattle's team doctors are assesing the extent of the injury to determine how much time he will
miss, but overall it's a more positive health situation than was initially feared.
Macdonald spoke with the media on Thursday afternoon and mentioned Darnold was back at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. Macdonald also confirmed the injury is muscle-related. You can see his full comments in the post from ESPN's Brady Henderson below.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport has said the team is hopeful Darnold could be back "sooner than later" with this injury. But for now, he will surely miss at least the Week 2 game against the Cardinals in Arizona. The Seahawks should easily handle the Cardinals with Drew Lock at the helm, which is a much-needed break afforded to them by the schedule.
