One of the best players in the entire NFL is a Seattle Seahawk, and his name is Leonard Williams. Ranked as the No. 1 defensive tackle in the league by executives, coaches and scouts, the man they call "Big Cat" is entering the final year of his current contract. But perhaps this may not be the final season the 12th Man sees Williams on the field wearing the navy and action green of the Seahawks.
Following a training camp practice, Williams spoke to the media. The topic of playing on the final year of his deal came up, and Big Cat spoke at length about how he's not focusing on that and letting the process play out. He did, however, mention there have been a few conversations between his agents and Seattle's front office about a new deal. Big Cat's

As I mentioned earlier, Williams is entering the final season of a three-year deal he signed prior to the 2024 campaign. The Seahawks acquired Williams midway through the 2023 season, sending the New York Giants a second round pick to acquire his services. It was a risky move, as Big Cat was also on the final year of his contract at the time. But general manager John Schneider worked his magic and found a way to keep a player who would go on to be a foundational piece for Mike Macdonald's defense.
Williams is approaching this the correct way. Typically in the NFL, when two sides want to make something happen, and they are doing so in a quiet, professional manner, it tends to get done. Williams is an outstanding player and a key veteran presence. Considering how expensive the 2027 offseason will be for Seattle, it might be wise to extend a player with a $29 million dollar cap hit in 2026 to help spread that money out over a few more years.
Even at age 32, Big Cat is showing no signs of slowing down.
