The Seattle Seahawks signed defensive tackle Uso Seumalo and wide receiver Malick Meiga to the practice squad as they promoted safety Rodney Thomas II to the 53-man active roster Wednesday afternoon. The team published the official announcement at noon.
There’s one caveat, though—Meiga is currently on the commissioner’s exempt list as he gets his work visa sorted
. Once he does, he’ll be eligible to begin practicing with the team.With the season in full swing, several bigger stories dominated the headlines this week. Seumalo’s return after becoming a fan favorite during HBO’s “Hard Knocks” this summer will excite fans should he see the field in the regular season. Meiga is completely new to the organization, though, and paints a more interesting
picture of the team’s plans on offense.
The team’s depth chart suggests more pressing needs at the guard spots, with just three healthy ones on the active roster after starting right guard Anthony Bradford was placed on injured reserve today. DT and WR are both positions you need multiple of on every play, so it’s understandable teams like to be deep there. Seattle develops them well, too, and would use its 17-man practice squad to build potential contributors rather than prioritizing needs at the cost of talent.
