It's no secret that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold hasn't played well since returning from injury and re-entering the lineup. He'll face another stiff test on Sunday Night Football in Week 8. This Kansas City Chiefs defense will challenge Darnold.
Darnold has thrown five interceptions versus three touchdowns in Seattle's latest three contests. That includes consecutive multi-INT games in losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos. Darnold has to stop the bleeding versus this Steve Spagnuolo-coached defense.
The Chiefs rank 13th against the pass, allowing 217.2 yards per outing. They've only allowed four touchdown passes. Only the Minnesota Vikings have allowed fewer (3).
If there's a redeeming stat, the Chiefs have only registered
eight sacks. That's tied for second-fewest in the NFL. ESPN Analytics has them as an average pass-rushing unit, with the 19th-best pass-rush-win-rate (49%).
They are opportunistic, however. This Chiefs team is +5 in turnover differential, tied for second-best in the league. They have five interceptions in five games. Darnold's seven interceptions rank third among quarterbacks, but remember he's only played four complete games. Ball security is a real problem right now.
Darnold isn't playing admirably and the Chiefs have an excellent defense. Hopefully the tide turns for Darnold on Sunday Night Football.
