The Seattle Seahawks tried out two wide receivers Wednesday in the wake of an apparent knee injury star wideout Rashid Shaheed suffered on Sunday Night Football.

Head coach Mike Macdonald mentioned that “Shaheed, early returns are positive” Monday morning, but also went on to admit, “Any time the knee’s involved, you’re holding your breath, so right now, let’s just say it’s positive.” While we hold our breath and send our prayers for Shaheed, let’s break down today’s two tryout players.
The first wide receiver is Jacob De Jesus, an undrafted free agent rookie who was with the Kansas City Chiefs from May’s rookie minicamp all the way through preseason. They waived him as part
of their final roster cuts on Aug. 30. He began his collegiate career at Modesto Junior College before joining the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for the 2023 season. In two seasons there, he made First-team All-Mountain West both times. He transferred to the University of California, Berkeley, where he made First-team All-ACC in each of his two seasons. De Jesus has an extremely underwhelming athletic profile for an NFL wide receiver, but found a way to beat those odds at every step of his collegiate career.
The second wide receiver is Kole Wilson, another undrafted free agent rookie. Wilson spent the offseason with the Cleveland Browns, signing a 3-year, $3.105 million contract of which only $55,000 was guaranteed, after the rookie minicamp period ended on May 11. The Browns waived Wilson during final roster cuts on Aug. 30, brought him back to their practice squad the next day, and released him on Sept. 18. He spent time at the University of the Incarnate Word and Texas State University before ending his college career at Baylor University.
Wilson’s athletic profile is far more enticing than that of De Jesus — Wilson’s pre-draft testing placed him in the 86th percentile, compared to the latter’s ranking in just the 14th percentile — but De Jesus had far more impressive accolades in college. The Seahawks might not sign either immediately, but both stand between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-7 2/8 tall and weigh between 174 and 177 pounds. That gives us a clear idea of what type of frame they were willing to look at to add depth to their receiving corps.
