Sam Darnold deserves a C- for his performance against the Chicago Bears in Week 8, as the Seattle Seahawks quarterback struggled to find consistency and made several costly mistakes in a disappointing outing.
Darnold completed 17 of 34 passes for 188 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He averaged 5.5 yards per attempt, took three sacks and finished with a 74.1 passer rating. He also added 20 rushing yards on two attempts in the game.
Darnold's fourth-quarter miscue to Jadarian Price, who was wide open down the field on a crucial drive, as well as taking his eye off of the action when his pass had been intercepted later in the quarter with the Seahawks down 27-17, as he turned toward the sideline, seemingly unaware that the opposing defense
had secured possession off of what looked like a batted pass that resulted in an incompletion, provided further evidence of his underwhelming performance on the game. His inability to reach 200 passing yards reinforced the severity of his struggles.
Meanwhile, his interceptions total climbed to nine on the year, placing him near the top of the league's leaderboard in that category. Between the turnovers, questionable awareness and limited production through the air, Darnold did little to justify a stronger grade. The C- reflects a performance that fell short of expectations.
