Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold climbed two places in the franchise’s record book during the team’s Week 3 win over the Washington Commanders.
Darnold moved past Seneca Wallace for ninth place on Seattle’s all-time completions list. He entered the game needing 10 completions to surpass Wallace’s total of 557 and cleared that mark against Washington with the 31 completions that he threw in the contest.
Darnold also threw a touchdown pass to pass Wallace for ninth in Seahawks history in career passing touchdowns. Wallace finished his Seattle tenure with 26 scoring passes, a total Darnold eclipsed in the victory with the four TDs that he threw in the loss.
The two milestones added another historical note to Seattle’s win over the Commanders
and reflected Darnold’s continued production as the Seahawks’ quarterback.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba also made his mark on the game, as he set a Seahawks franchise record for the most receptions by a player through his first four NFL seasons. He surpassed the previous mark of 306 held by DK Metcalf with 10 receptions, bringing him to 309. By moving past Metcalf, Smith-Njigba added a significant individual achievement to his Seahawks résume amid a hot start to the year.
It was a disappointing loss in Week 3, but two strong individual performances do ease the sting a little. Seattle still has plenty to look forward to this year, and Sam Darnold and JSN are two reasons why.
