Is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold the next NFL quarterback in line to receive a sizable contract extension in the NFL?
Earlier this month, Fox Sports’ Greg Auman listed Darnold as being a veteran star QB who deserves a rich new deal.
“Darnold was on the Mayfield track — he got a three-year, $100 million deal after Mayfield got the same,” Auman said. “And with Mayfield getting his deal, that sets the easy minimum for a new Darnold deal if his 2026 is anything close to 2025, helping the Seahawks to a championship.”
Darnold returned from a Week 1 injury to complete 31-45 passes for 379 yards and four touchdowns to two interceptions in the Seahawks’ 33-31 loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 3. Darnold picked up where he left off from dating
back to last season as the reigning Super Bowl champion, and delivered a high-volume performance, despite the giveaways.
In his first full game played this season, Darnold has looked like himself, and is likely to get the Seahawks back on the winning side of things in short order. With the accolades that he accumulated last season, and the level of play he has played with to start the year, combined with his trajectory for the season, Darnold warrants a big extension, which will be to the benefit of the Seahawks and their franchise quarterback.
