Clemson fans will have a reason to tune in early Sunday as Will Shipley prepares for one of his biggest opportunities since reaching the NFL.
The former Tigers running back is expected to start for Philadelphia against Jacksonville in London, with Saquon Barkley likely unavailable because of a hamstring injury. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. EDT on NFL Network.
For Shipley, the assignment offers a chance to turn the Eagles’ confidence in him into production. Offensive coordinator Sean Mannion highlighted his pass protection and instincts as a runner while assessing the team’s options in an injury-depleted backfield.
“He’s been someone who has had a valuable role for us from the outset,” Mannion said.
Much of that work has come away from the
offense. Shipley has accumulated 1,084 kickoff return yards and 17 special teams tackles, while receiving just 59 carries through his NFL career. Those attempts have yielded 182 yards, with another 115 yards coming on 17 catches.
Sunday would mark his first start since 2024 and only the second of his career. Shipley said the change in responsibilities will not require a different approach.
Will Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney determine the 2027 coaching carousel?

“Each week it doesn’t really change for me,” he said. “I prepare like the starter and the word opportunity is just a word.”
Barkley has helped reinforce that preparation. Shipley credited his teammate with consistently offering advice and supporting his development since his rookie year.
The former Clemson standout will now look to put those lessons to use with Philadelphia potentially asking considerably more of him.
