All of the offseason questions finally start getting answered Saturday night.
Clemson opens the 2026 season in Baton Rouge, where the Tigers will face LSU in front of what should be one of the loudest crowds anywhere in college football this weekend. The matchup has been one of the most anticipated games on the Week 1 slate, and now the focus shifts from projections, rankings and offseason storylines to what actually happens on the field.
The game also gives Clemson an immediate measuring stick. After finishing 7-6 last season, Dabo Swinney’s team begins the year ranked No. 23 in the Coaches Poll and will try to make an early statement away from home against a nationally ranked SEC opponent.
Christopher Vizzina gets the first crack at leading Clemson’s
offense into a new season, while LSU will begin the Lane Kiffin era with veteran transfer Sam Leavitt at quarterback. The home Tigers enter the night ranked No. 11 in the AP Top 25, adding even more weight to a matchup that already comes with plenty of attention.
There is some unfinished business here, too. LSU left Memorial Stadium with a 17-10 win over Clemson last season, and Saturday gives Swinney’s team a chance to return the favor on LSU’s home field.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, with College GameDay also in Baton Rouge for the matchup.
