Two Clemson football players delivered big moments in the Tigers' 24-10 win over the California Golden Bears in Week 4, a feat that earned them ACC Player of the Week honors Monday.
Clemson receiver and returner Bryant Wesco Jr. was named Specialist of the Week for his 65-yard punt return touchdown that broke a 10-10 tie in the third quarter of Friday's game.
Wesco's return came days after coach Clemson Dabo Swinney said on his weekly radio show that he felt the third-year receiver was closing to breaking one for a touchdown. Wesco did just that, giving Clemson its first punt return touchdown in eight years.
Defensive back Elliot Washington II joined Wesco among Monday's ACC Player of the Week selections.
The Penn State Nittany Lions transfer had
two interceptions of Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, who Clemson's defense held to a career-low 119 passing yards on 16 of 29 attempts.
Washington picked off Sagapolutele on the Bears' first drive of the night, then fittingly intercepted the second-year starter on Cal's final drive with 1:54 remaining.
It was the second straight week that Washington had an interception on the opponents' final drive. He picked off North Carolina quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. on UNC's last series in the Tigers' 28-20 come-from-behind win over the Tar Heels on Sept. 19.
