Clemson is still facing long odds against Miami, but the betting market has moved at least slightly in the Tigers’ direction.
After opening as a 17.5-point home underdog, Clemson is now getting 16.5 points ahead of Saturday night’s matchup in Death Valley. The Tigers are also listed at +550 on the moneyline, while the over/under currently sits at 48.5 points.
That one-point shift in the spread won’t change the overall picture. Miami is still expected to win comfortably, and Clemson finds itself in one of the most unusual betting positions of the Dabo Swinney era.
But the Tigers have at least gained a little ground since the opening number was released.
Clemson enters the matchup at 3-1 overall and 2-0 in ACC play after responding to its ugly season-opening
loss to LSU with three consecutive victories. Miami is 4-0 and 2-0 in the conference after rolling through the first month of its schedule.
The Hurricanes have been installed as one of the biggest road favorites Clemson has welcomed to Memorial Stadium in more than two decades.
For anyone backing Clemson to win outright, the +550 moneyline shows just how significant an upset it would be. The 16.5-point spread gives the Tigers considerably more room, with Clemson needing to lose by 16 points or fewer to cover.

The total of 48.5 also suggests oddsmakers are not expecting the game to turn into a massive shootout despite Miami’s explosive start offensively.
Clemson will get its chance to change the perception surrounding the matchup Saturday night.
The Tigers and Hurricanes kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium, with the game televised nationally on ABC.
