The home opener for the Clemson Tigers finds Dabo Swinney's team going up against an opponent from the Sun Belt Conference during Week 2 of the 2026 college football season.
Clemson (0-1), which dropped out of the US LBM Coaches Poll after its 51-10 loss to Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers last Saturday, will host the Georgia Southern Eagles (1-0) in prime-time Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
The Tigers' season opener and quarterback Christopher Vizzina's second career start couldn't have gone much worse. LSU erased an early 3-0 deficit and led by two touchdowns after the first quarter. The Bayou Bengals were up 31-3 at halftime and led 51-3 in the final 15 minutes.
Vizzina was 10-of-16 for 83 yards (5.2 avg.) with an interception returned for a touchdown
on Clemson's third drive of the drive. All told, Clemson punted or turned the ball over on 11 straight possessions between Nolan Hauser's 49-yard field goal on the first series and David Eziomume's 11-yard touchdown run with just over three minutes left in the game. LSU outgained Clemson in total yards, 644-145.
Swinney said Tuesday that both Vizzina and freshman Tait Reynolds will see action against Georgia Southern.
The Eagles (1-0) defeated Charleston Southern, 31-0, in their season opener. Seventh-year college quarterback Max Johnson threw for 281 yards and a touchdown while completing 28 of his 39 passes.
