Former Clemson running back Phil Mafah is getting another NFL opportunity, this time with the New York Giants.

Mafah is signing with the Giants’ practice squad, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The move gives the former Tiger a new home after he was waived by the Dallas Cowboys during the roster cutdown process.

Dallas selected Mafah in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but his rookie season was largely interrupted by injury. He spent much of the year on injured reserve before finally getting an opportunity to contribute late in the season.

Mafah made the most of his limited work in Dallas’ regular-season finale, carrying the ball five times for 18 yards and a touchdown while also catching two passes for 11 yards. He also found the end

zone during the Cowboys’ preseason matchup against the Arizona Cardinals in August.

Now, Mafah will try to work his way into the picture with the Giants while beginning on the practice squad.

Clemson fans are plenty familiar with what the 6-foot-1 running back can provide when healthy. Mafah appeared in 50 games for the Tigers from 2021 through 2024, starting 21 times and developing into one of the program’s most dependable offensive players.

He finished his Clemson career with 2,887 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns on 561 attempts. Mafah also contributed as a receiver, totaling 58 catches for 309 yards across 1,687 career snaps.

After his time in Dallas came to an end, Mafah will now look to turn his opportunity in New York into another chance at an NFL active roster.
