College football’s changing schedule has claimed another major rivalry matchup, and Dabo Swinney isn’t particularly happy about it.
Clemson and Georgia have scrapped four future meetings, eliminating games scheduled for 2029, 2030, 2032 and 2033. The decision comes as both conferences move toward nine-game league schedules.
“I mean, 2026, in the world, that’s all I can tell you is that’s college football,” Swinney said Tuesday. “I hate it, because I just think it’s great for fans, but I get it.”
For Clemson, the challenge is balancing a tougher ACC schedule with its annual Thanksgiving weekend showdown against South Carolina. Adding Georgia would give the Tigers 11 Power Four opponents in one season.
Swinney would rather see conferences take a different
approach.
“You don’t have many people playing 11 Power Four games,” Swinney said. “We’ve been playing 10 forever around here. But, going to nine conference games, I wish it was less, I wish everybody played seven conference games so then you have more crossover games throughout all of college football but it is what it is.”

The cancellation takes away another chapter in a rivalry that dates back more than a century. Georgia leads the all-time series 44-18-4 and won the most recent meeting 34-3 in 2024.
Clemson must now find replacement opponents for several future seasons, although its upcoming matchups with Notre Dame and Oklahoma remain on the schedule.
