Clemson’s defense will be missing a pair of starters when the Tigers take the field Friday night against Cal.
The latest ACC availability report brought two notable changes for Clemson, with defensive back Corian Gipson and defensive tackle Devarrick Woods both moving from questionable to out.
Gipson’s absence leaves the Tigers without their starting nickel. The junior played only two snaps early in Clemson’s comeback victory over North Carolina last weekend, while Misun Kelley saw 11 snaps. Gipson has recorded 12 tackles through the first three games of the season.
Woods will also be unavailable after making his first Clemson start against UNC. The transfer played 20 snaps in the win and has four tackles this season. His absence comes at a position
where Clemson does have some options, including Andy Burburija, Amare Adams and veteran Vic Burley, who returned from suspension last weekend and recovered a fumble.
The Tigers also ruled out reserve running back Jay Haynes after he initially appeared as questionable. Haynes has yet to play this season.
There was better news at quarterback, where Christopher Vizzina remains probable despite dealing with an elbow issue.

Cal’s side of the report remains unchanged. Defensive end Nate Burrell and reserve running back Carter Vargas are both listed as doubtful.
Clemson practiced on the West Coast on Wednesday as it prepares for a late kickoff in Berkeley. The Tigers and Golden Bears both enter the matchup at 2-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC play.
Friday’s game is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
