Billy Amick is headed to a new organization after the former Clemson infielder was dealt before Major League Baseball’s Aug. 3 trade deadline.
The New York Mets acquired Amick from the Minnesota Twins in a trade that sent left-handed reliever A.J. Minter to Minnesota. Shortstop prospect Bruin Agbayani was also included in the package going to New York.
Amick was selected by the Twins with the No. 60 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft after finishing his college career at Tennessee. Before turning pro, he spent two seasons at Clemson, where he developed into one of the nation’s top hitters.
After appearing in just nine games during the 2022 season, Amick broke out in a huge way the following year. He batted .413 with 13 home runs, 17 doubles and
63 RBIs in only 46 games, earning first-team All-ACC and first-team All-America honors while establishing himself as one of the ACC’s best offensive players.
The Batesburg, South Carolina native transferred to Tennessee for his final collegiate season and helped the Volunteers capture the 2024 national championship. As the team’s starting third baseman, he hit .306 with 23 home runs and 65 RBIs during the title run.

The 23-year-old has spent all of this season at Double-A, where he has continued to show his power at the plate with 23 home runs and 72 RBIs in 86 games. Over three minor league seasons, Amick owns a .251 batting average with 30 home runs and 112 RBIs. He’ll now continue his development in the Mets system as he works toward reaching the major leagues.
