Christopher Vizzina has not played since suffering a left elbow injury against Georgia Southern in Week 2. His recovery has taken longer than Clemson initially expected, but head coach Dabo Swinney offered an encouraging update following Wednesday’s practice.
“CV is still not 100%, but this has been the best week he’s had since before he got hurt,” Swinney said.
That progress includes moving from the larger brace to a sleeve and pad. Vizzina is still working to regain his full range of motion, so Swinney’s update stops short of confirming a return to game action.
“He’s just gotten better and better. We thought it would bounce back a little bit quicker, but it’s just been hard for him,” Swinney said. “But he’s gotten better. He’s had a really good
week, and it’s just one of those things that’s been day-to-day.”
True freshman Tait Reynolds took over as Clemson’s starter ahead of the North Carolina game after Vizzina started the first two contests. Vizzina was completely unavailable against the Tar Heels, then dressed against Cal strictly as an emergency option.
Swinney made clear just how limited that availability was. Clemson would have turned to Trent Pearman and likely Brock Bradley before asking Vizzina to play against the Golden Bears.

“It would have been like we would have had to get through Trent and probably even through Brock before we got to him,” Swinney said. “He was just still really, really sore.”
Through his two starts, Vizzina completed 14 of 23 passes for 102 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
