Former Clemson Tigers star Trevor Lawrence will have a new backup quarterback in 2026.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are acquiring former Texas Longhorns starter Quinn Ewersin a trade with the Miami Dolphins, according to multiple reports.
Ewers was a seventh-round selection by the Dolphins in the 2025 NFL Draft. He made three starts as a rookie last season and completed 55 of his 83 passes for 622 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions.
Ewers led Texas to a 38-24 win over Clemson in the 2024 College Football Playoff during his senior season.
He'll battle with former Southern Miss quarterback Nick Mullens for the top backup job behind Lawrence. Mullens is entering his ninth NFL season and his second with the Jaguars. He saw action in five
games last season and completed three passes for 19 yards with Lawrence starting all 18 games.
As part of the trade, the Jaguars and Dolphins agreed to swap third-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Lawrence threw for 4,007 yards and a career-high 29 touchdowns to 12 interceptions while guiding Jacksonville to a 13-4 regular-season record and the AFC South division title in 2025. The Jaguars fell to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, enters his sixth season in the league with 17,822 career passing yards and 98 touchdowns to 58 interceptions. He has a career quarterback rating of 86.3.
