Clemson will use both Christopher Vizzina and Tait Reynolds at quarterback Saturday night, but Dabo Swinney is not giving away which one will get the first opportunity.
The Tigers listed Vizzina and Reynolds as co-starters on their latest depth chart ahead of the home opener against Georgia Southern. Swinney kept that competition private Wednesday during his final media availability of the week.
“Just working each day on getting the plan down, and getting ready to try to go see if we can take a big step forward this week,” Swinney said.
Both quarterbacks saw action in Clemson’s season-opening 51-10 loss at LSU.
Vizzina started the game and handled most of the first-half snaps before Reynolds entered late in the second quarter. Vizzina later returned
during the fourth quarter.
The senior finished 10-of-16 for 83 yards, with his biggest mistake coming on a first-quarter interception that LSU returned for a touchdown. He was 6-of-11 for 51 yards before halftime.
Reynolds received a smaller sample size in his college debut, completing four of his six attempts for 22 yards.
Swinney was asked Wednesday whether Clemson had already settled on which quarterback would start against Georgia Southern. He declined to reveal anything beyond the fact that both players are part of the plan.
“I’m not going to answer any of those things, other than just they’ll both play,” Swinney said. “The team ain’t worried about it. The team’s just trying to focus on what they’ve got to do. They’re going to play for whoever runs out there. They all know the situation, that the guys are competing. But they’ll both play.”
That leaves some mystery surrounding Clemson’s first offensive possession Saturday, but there will be no mystery about the overall approach. Vizzina and Reynolds will each get another chance to show what they can do as the Tigers look for a much better offensive performance in Week 2.

Clemson and Georgia Southern are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The game will be televised on ACC Network.
