ESPN analyst Field Yates recently unveiled his early top-10 NFL mock draft for the upcoming offseason, breaking down only the first 10 selections. One star Clemson Tigers player made the cut.
Yates has cornerback Ashton Hampton going 10th overall to the New York Jets, with draft order being determined by Super Bowl odds. Yates had this to say about the elite defensive back:
“Hampton has excellent size (6-2, 205 pounds), is extremely fluid and is confident as a man-coverage corner. He also makes plays on the ball, with nine passes defended and an interception this season."
Hampton is also a great open-field tackler, which he displayed in his six-tackle performance against Virginia Tech. Almost none of those tackles came after allowing a reception.
As good as Nate Wiggins, A.J. Aveion Terrell, Andrew Booth and Trayvon Mullen were, Hampton may be the best corner prospect the Tigers have seen in the Dabo Swinney era. No matter where he goes, if he’s as productive at the NFL level as the former three-star recruit has been for Clemson, he’s absolutely worth a top-10 pick.
