Clemson’s quarterback depth is getting healthier, even as the starting job remains firmly in Tait Reynolds’ hands.
Dabo Swinney said Christopher Vizzina was available for Saturday’s 37-0 victory over Charleston Southern despite continuing to recover from the left elbow injury he suffered against Georgia Southern.
Vizzina’s absence from the box score reflected how the Tigers wanted to distribute its late-game snaps. Trent Pearman had earned an opportunity through his practice work, and Vizzina supported giving freshman Brock Bradley the final possession when Swinney offered him the choice.
“He’s like, ‘Let’s put Brock in.’ So, that was really his call,” Swinney said.
The encouraging development for Clemson is Vizzina’s progress in practice. After
missing the North Carolina game and serving as an emergency option at Cal, he has become a more viable option behind Reynolds. Look
“This was the first week, this past week, he was really able to practice the way he needs to practice,” Swinney said.
That recovery does not reopen the quarterback competition. Reynolds earned the starting assignment after Clemson’s second game, and Swinney remains committed to the freshman while emphasizing Vizzina’s importance.

“Tait’s the starter. Tait’s earned that,” Swinney said. “But we’ll need CV at some point, for sure.”
For Clemson, getting Vizzina healthy would provide valuable depth as Reynolds navigates the second half of his freshman season.
