Week 1's season-opener exposed a handful of potential trouble areas for the 2026 Cowboys roster. Two days after the 28-20 loss to the Giants, Dallas is choosing to address depth at the running back position.
The Cowboys are signing Tyler Goodson off Atlanta's practice squad, according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson.
Goodson went undrafted out of Iowa in 2022 despite recording a 1,100-yard final year for the Hawkeyes. He spent his first pro season with Green Bay but did not make it into a game. The Georgia native then signed with Indianapolis in 2023, seeing action in 33 contests (with one start) over the next three seasons. He amassed 264 rushing yards and a touchdown on 54 career carries, adding 103 receiving yards and a score on 19 total catches
over his Colts tenure.
He received good reviews in his first summer spent with his hometown Falcons, with the team website commenting on his "fast, elusive, and decisive" camp performance. He flashed those skills during the preseason on a 49-yard touchdown run against his former Colts teammates.

Goodson's failure to make the Falcons' 53-man roster to start the season baffled many in the Atlanta media. Now the Cowboys have snatched him up for their own.
At 5-foot-9 and 197 pounds, Goodson's build is similar to that of Malik Davis, who Dallas placed on injured reserve last week. He'll join Israel Abanikanda and Emari Demercado as the backup platoon behind starter Javonte Williams.
At the time of this writing, the Cowboys have not announced a corresponding roster move to make room for Goodson.
