The Cowboys are shoring up one of their future options at tight end.
The team announced late Thursday it has come to terms with third-year man Brevyn Spann-Ford on a contract extension. The deal is a three-year extension worth $18 million, $12.075 of which is guaranteed, per ESPN's Todd Archer.
Spann-Ford came to the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota in 2024 and became an immediate contributor, seeing time in every game the Cowboys have played since. In those 34 appearances, the 6-foot-6-inch Spann-Ford has recorded 18 catches for 198 yards and a touchdown, with five starts on his pro résumé.
But the 265-pounder's primary role thus far has been as a blocker and a special teams player; he was on the field for 50% of the Cowboys'
special teams snaps last season, fourth-most on the entire roster.

Spann-Ford has leapfrogged former second-round draft pick Luke Schoonmaker on the Dallas depth chart, currently listed as TE2 behind starter Jake Ferguson. Schoonmaker's rookie deal is set to expire at the end of the 2026 season; news of the Cowboys' commitment to Spann-Ford will likely only add to widespread speculation that the underachieving Michigan man is not in the Cowboys' long-term plans.
Instead of hitting free agency next offseason, Spann-Ford's new extension will take him through the Cowboys' 2029 campaign.
