The Dallas Cowboys set the NFL world on fire late Wednesday night with their announced trade acquisition of cornerback Joey Porter, Jr
. Dallas has had defensive issues to start the year and they've been made far worse by a secondary that has been decimated with injury. Porter hasn't played yet this season, citing a back injury that seems similar to what Micah Parsons suffered last training camp before his trade out of the organization.Meanwhile teh club has been preparing to take on their Week 4 opponent. The team's defense will face a Houston Texans offense struggling to establish its ground game but still possessing enough weapons to create explosive plays through the air. Dallas has its own issues defensively, allowing 9.1 yards per pass
attempt and 5.0 yards per rush this season. The Cowboys' defense played well at times against the Ravens; now they have the opportunity to take another step forward against a Texans offense averaging just 3.9 yards per carry and 6.6 yards per pass attempt, if they play sound football and execute as a unit.
Linebacker Jaishawn Barham has been a bright spot for the defense, though he believes his development remains a work in progress and continues to approach it one week at a time. Even so, head coach Brian Schottenheimer believes Barham is earning the right to become the team's permanent Mike linebacker, a role that carries added leadership responsibilities. Reflecting on the loss in Rio, Barham challenged his fellow defenders to look in the mirror and hold themselves accountable if they want to improve and start winning games.
