Cowboys owner and birthday boy Jerry Jones revealed that defensive coordinator Christian Parker will head to the coaching booth during gamedays , starting in Week 6. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer's word that changes were on the horizon are coming to fruition with the team returning from their mini-bye.
Parker had previously been on the sidelines but now moves upstairs to hopefully give the first-year defensive coordinator a different perspective as Dallas searches for answers to its defensive problems. Jones made the reveal while on his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan.

It is unclear where the newly inked Mike Pettinewill coach from after the Cowboys announced him
as the Senior Defensive assistant to help Parker navigate the landscape of being a defensive coordinator.
The decision comes after a dissapointing 24-16 loss to the Tamp bay Buccaneers, a game in which Dallas surrendered 419 total yards to a previously winless opponent. The defeat dropped the Cowboys to 2-3 and intensified concern about a defense that has struggled to meet expectations through the opening weeks of the season.
"We're gonna coach the defense not on the field, but up above. Parker's going up above." - Jerry Jones on Christian Parker
Moving Parker upstairs could provide him with a better vantage point to evaluate offensive formations, identify developing plays, and communicate adjustments. Coaches in the booth can often see the entire field more clearly, potentially helping them recognize issues that are harder to identify from the sideline.
Jones also emphasized that the move should not be interpreted as an admission that Parker is overwhelmed. However, last season, Dallas moved then defensive coordinatorMatt Eberflus to the booth for the final three games of the season after his defense was being obliterated by opposing offenses.
Whether a change in perspective and additional coaching experience can produce meaningful improvement remains to be seen. For Dallas, the priority is clear: find answers before the season slips away.
