The Dallas Cowboys were already handcuffed when it came to their secondary personnel for Week 3. Now things are getting ridiculous. Dallas lost free safety Malik Hooker to a forearm injury in Week 1. They then lost starting corner Cobie Durant (hamstring) in Week 2 and Hooker's replacement PJ Locke (foot).
Now, on a second quarter play, they appear to have lost the other starting safety, Jalen Thompson. Thompson's left leg was caught awkwardly on a tackle attempt, locking in place while his weight went in the opposite direction. After being down on the field, he limped off the field and made his way to the blue medical tent.
Dallas made a roster move prior to the game, promoting slot defender Reddy Steward from the practice squad. That's where
rookie first-round pick Caleb Downs has been stationed to start the year, but Downs has safety experience from college.
Starting next to Thompson for Week 3 was Markquese Bell, who was called for a huge DPI that set up Derrick Henry's second score of the first half. Alijah Clark came into the game to replace Thompson.
Update: Thompson is questionable to return with a hamstring injury.
