After a day that started with waiver wire claims and then moved to practice squad signings, the Cowboys made a late-afternoon announcement that rocked the league. Joe Milton is out, with Sam Howell apparently winning the backup quarterback job in Dallas. There will be follow-up questions galore once Cowboys brass gets back in front of a microphone, but for now, observers are wondering why Milton wasn't booted the day before, with all of Sunday's other roster cuts. Were the Cowboys trying to find a trade partner? Are they perhaps hoping that with other teams finalizing their rosters, they can sneak him past Tuesday's waiver wire deadline
and bring him back to their own practice squad? Or will "Bazooka Joe" simply get another chance somewhere else?
