The Dallas Cowboys quietly added a free agent to their roster this past weekend, though it wasn't the one that fans were anticipating. Still, this move strengthens the offensive line and increases competition for the swing tackle role.
The new addition is Sebastian Gutierrez, a journeyman offensive tackle who signed after the Cowboys waived veteran edge Charlie Snowden. Gutierrez, who went undrafted in 2022 from Division II Minot State, has been on the practice squads of several NFL teams, including the Patriots (2022, 2025–2026), Raiders (2022–2023, where he made his debut), Chiefs (2023), 49ers (2023–2024, 2024–2025, playing in one game), Colts (2024), and Browns (2024, 2025).

Gutierrez’s path to making the 53-man roster hinges on proving he can anchor the swing tackle role, a depth spot Dallas is constantly evaluating. He faces stiff competition in camp, battling 2024 seventh-round pick Nathan Thomas, 2025 sixth-rounder Ajani Cornelius, 2026 fourth-round pick Drew Shelton, and rookie UDFA Shiyazh Pete. What Gutierrez brings to the table over these younger prospects is valuable NFL experience, having spent time on multiple rosters and practice squads. To claim a roster spot, he must demonstrate a consistent, high-level backup play at both left and right tackle while proving his value on special teams. If he falls short of the active 53, his positional versatility still makes him a strong candidate to stick on the practice squad.
