The list of places where Jason Witten's name will live forever just keeps growing.
The legendary Dallas Cowboys tight end just missed the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, but it's a near-lock he'll be enshrined soon. A spot in the Cowboys Ring of Honor will happen, too, and he's already in the Sports Hall of Fame in two different states. Witten holds multiple mentions in the record books of both the Cowboys franchise and the National Football League, notably as Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2012. His college jersey is still a top seller at the University of Tennessee a quarter-century after he played there. And this season he'll start a new legacy at the University of Oklahoma as the program's tight ends coach.
But this one is uniquely
special.
Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Tex. has permanently renamed its gridiron "Witten Family Field" in a ceremony held this week. Witten served as the school's head football coach there for five seasons beginning in 2021, amassing a 44-7 record in that time and claiming back-to-back state titles in 2023 and 2024.
Witten was in attendance for the festivities Friday night ahead of the Warriors' 2026 opener against Midland Christian. Alongside him were his wife Michelle, his daughters Landry and Hadley, and his son Cooper, who is a four-star senior linebacker for Liberty Christian this season and is committed to Oklahoma next fall. Witten's oldest son CJ also went to Liberty and is currently playing for Rice University.

The school said the renaming honor is for more than just the impact the Witten family has had on the school's football program.
“Jason, Michelle, and the entire Witten family embraced a vision that helped strengthen not only Liberty football, but the Warrior community as a whole," school officials said in a social media post. “Through [the Witten family’s] leadership, generosity, relationships and love for Liberty, they helped make Friday nights a gathering place for students, families, alumni and friends – a place where Warrior spirit came alive. Thank you, Witten family, for the many ways you have invested in Liberty Christian School and for the lasting legacy your family has helped create.”
Liberty Christian went on to fall to Midland Christian, 66-63, under its new head coach.
