The Dallas Cowboys entered the game looking to establish their first winning streak of the season and return to .500. This was a game against a really bad team, that would allow them to signal they had righted the ship after early-season injury and scheme adherence difficulty. It looked all good for about 40 minutes, but in the end, this is who the Dallas Cowboys truly are. A bad team that can't even beat other bad teams at home in AT&T Stadium.
The Cowboys tucked their tails when things got hectic, and they were never able to get themselves back on solid footing. The Cowboys had a 14-point lead midway through the third and again in the fourth quarter. They stretched it back to 10 again in the fourth quarter. But somehow, they exit Week 8 with
a loss and a 3-5 record.
A team that cannot stand prosperity. A squad unable to stem the tide. A staff that has no answers on either side of the ball when they need it most. Whatever way it needs to be classified, this Dallas team is an abject disaster.
The Cardinals have now won five games in a row over Dallas, and every game they've ever played in Jerry World.
Brian Schottenheimer's club was thoroughly dominating the Cardinals through most of three quarters. They made back-to-back sacks of QB Jacoby Brissett, leading to a change of quarterback. And then everything broke.
Gardner Mishnew entered the contest, but it was backup RB Tyler Allgeier who broke the Dallas defense with a 63-yard run. But the club scored to stretch the lead back, only to give up a 50-plus run to Allgeier. The Cardinals scored four straight second half touchdowns, with the Dallas offense offering nothing that even closely resembles who Schottenheimer claims he is.
With no running room the entire game, Schotty continued to call running plays, hoping to run out the clock instead of using his weapons to seal the game with his best unti.
So even with all that timidness, a missed extra point with six seconds remaining gave the Cowboys the chance in overtime. Only when the defense finally stood tall, forcing a three and out, the Cowboys went three and out themselves.
From there, Minshew was able to sustain a drive, leading to a 42-yard field goal by Ryland, who made up for his missed XP, for the 33-30 victory.
Can Schottenheimer survive such a pathetic display of coaching? The hot seat cannot get any hotter than it is right now. He's lost multiple games that have been far too embarassing for a veteran team like this one.
