Sophomore quarterback George Maclntyre helped lead Tennessee (4-1, 1-1 SEC) to a, 24-14, win against Auburn (3-2, 1-2 SEC) in Week 5 at Neyland Stadium.
Faizon Brandon started at quarterback for the Vols and completed 3-of-8 passing attempts for zero yards and one interception. MacIntyre replaced him and completed 8-of-10 passing attempts for 86 yards.
Following the game, first-year Auburn head coach Alex Golesh discussed MacIntyre's performance. Golesh served as Tennessee's offensive coordinator and tight ends coach from 2021-22.
“He was as efficient as you can imagine," Golesh said. "Think at one point he was six-for-six. I thought he operated well. We forced a ton of pressure in the first half, and that second half I feel like they got big and started
running it even on the passing situations.
"He took a couple shots there, started with the two-minute drive, and then he took a couple shots there, which didn’t get any pressure. They match-protected him, they did a good job of protecting him, but we certainly didn’t affect him in any way. I thought that was a big piece of it being efficient."
