No. 18 Tennessee (1-0) defeated Furman (1-1), 56-9, on Sept. 5 at Neyland Stadium to open its 2026 football season.
The Week 1 victory over the Paladins, was Josh Heupel's 46th win as Tennessee's head coach, tying him for sixth overall with Doug Dickey for all-time wins in program history.
Dickey served as Tennessee's head coach from 1964-69. He compiled a record of 46-15-4 (23-0-4 SEC) and guided the Vols to SEC championships in 1967 and 1969. Dickey was named SEC Coach of the Year two times (1967, 1969) and is a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, the College Football Hall of Fame and the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame.
He later served as head coach at Florida from 1970-78, before serving as Colorado'soffensive coordinator
in 1979.
Dickey returned to Tennessee and served as the school's athletics director from 1985-2002.
Heupel was named head coach in 2021 and has compiled a head coaching record of 46-20 (24-16 SEC) at Tennessee.
