Tennessee junior defensive back Dejuan Lane was named Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week.
Lane, the ninth player in program history to earn national player of the week honors from the Walter Camp Foundation, totaled a career-high nine tackles in Tennessee's, 24-14, victory over Auburn on Oct. 3. The Penn State transfer also recorded 2.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks, one quarterback hurry and one interception against the Tigers.
His interception was during the third quarter. Lane had a 32-yard return on his third interception of his career and second in 2026.
He is the first player to receive honors from the Walter Camp Foundation since wide receiver Jalin Hyatt on. Oct. 16, 2022, when the Vols defeated Alabama. Hendon Hooker was
named National Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 25, 2022, after the Vols defeated Florida. The last Tennessee defensive player to earn a Walter Camp award was Darrell Taylor, who earned the honor on Nov. 10, 2018, after Tennessee defeated Kentucky.
Tennessee's only two-time Walter Camp honoree was quarterback Joshua Dobbs, who received recognition on Nov. 20, 2016, after the Vols defeated Missouri. He was also honored on Oct. 11, 2015 after Tennessee defeated Georgia.
