2026 US Open men's singles competition opened Sunday with the first round at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York. The tournament will conclude Sept. 13 with a men’s singles championship match.
Former Vol and national champion Adam Walton opened play against Yibing Wu on Court 11 in the first round. Wu defated Walton, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, 7-5.
Wu will face the winner between No. 30 Matteo Arnaldi or James Duckworth in the second round on Sept. 2.
2026 marked the third year Walton competed in singles at the US Open.
In 2024, he lost to Alexandre Muller, 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 3-6, 4-6, in the first round on Court 16.
Walton defeated No. 22 seed Ugo Humbert, 6-4, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1, in 2025 on Court 10 during the first round. The former
Vol lost to Coleman Wong, 6-7 (5-7), 2-6, 6-4, 4-6, in the second round on Court 10.
Walton played at Tennessee from 2017-22, compiling a 124-25 singles and 101-47 doubles record. He was an All-SEC player and earned All-America honors in both singles and doubles competition. In 2022, Walton combined with Pat Harper to win a doubles national championship.
