Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891. International players have played for the Vols through the years.
Student-athletes from Australia, Canada, Germany, Nigeria and Northern Mariana Islands have played at Tennessee.
Six players went to Tennessee from Canada: Jonathan Kongbo, Josh Palmer, Dale Sanderson, Bill Danychuk, Guillaume Dumont and Paul Yatkowski.
Kongbo was a defensive lineman and linebacker from 2016-18. He appeared in 30 games, including 17 starts. Kongbo totaled 51 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions and one touchdown.
Palmer played wide receiver from 2017-20. During his college career, he totaled 99 receptions for 1,514 yards and seven touchdowns. Palmer was selected the third round of the 2021 NFL
draft (No. 77th overall) by the Chargers.
Sanderson was a center in 1983. Following his career at Tennessee, he played with Hamilton in the CFL (1985-97) and was a Grey Cup champion (1986).
Danychuk played on the offensive line as a tackle in 1964. He also played for Hamilton in the CFL (1964-75) and was a three-time Grey Cup champion (1965, 1967, 1972).
Yatkowski played defensive tackle from 1992-93 after transferring from Mesa Community College. He was the No. 3 overall selection in the 1993 CFL draft to Ottawa.
Dumont was an offensive guard from 2000-03.
