Defensive coordinator Will Muschamp will return to Tennessee on Saturday in Week 4 with No. 1 Texas (3-0). No. 13 Tennessee (3-0) will host the Longhorns at Neyland Stadium with kickoff slated for noon EDT (ABC).
Muschamp first coached at Neyland Stadium with LSU on Sept. 29, 2001. He was linebackers coach when Tennessee defeated the Tigers, 26-18.
Muschamp served as Florida’s head coach from 2011-14 and was 2-0 at Tennessee. The Gators won, 37-20, on Sept. 15, 2012 and, 10-9, on Oct. 4, 2014.
He also served as South Carolina’s head coach from 2016-20 and played at Neyland Stadium two times. Muschamp and the Gamecocks won at Tennessee, 15-9, on Oct. 14, 2017. The Vols defeated South Carolina, 41-21, on Oct. 26, 2019.
Muchamp was on Georgia’s coaching
staff from 2021-24. The Bulldogs won at Tennessee, 41-17, on Nov. 13, 2021 when he served as a defensive analyst and special teams coordinator.
Georgia also won, 38-10, on Nov. 18, 2023 when Muschamp was co-defensive coordinator. In 2025, he assisted Georgia in an unofficial capacity off the field. The Bulldogs won, 44-41, in overtime at Tennessee on Sept. 13, 2025.

Sixth-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed Texas' defense under Muschamp ahead of Saturday's top 15 matchup.
"They're three games in at this point," Heupel said. "You kind of have a general idea of their identity in how they want to play and their personnel. Their personnel gives them a lot of freedom to do a lot of different things from pressure, to coverage, and rotations, so you get into conference play, you know you're going to see something that's not on film too. You've got to be able to adjust."
