Portland (11-5-6) tied Gotham FC (13-6-3), 1-1, in a NWSL match Friday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
Former Tennessee women's soccer player M.A. Vignolatotaled 39 touches, 17 defensive interventions and won three duels for the Thorns.
Gotham FC led, 1-0, after Jaedyn Shaw scored in the 60th minute. Portland tied the game, 1-1, after a goal by Sophia Wilson in the 75th minute. Midge Purce recorded an assist on the second goal of the match.
Portland outshot Gotham FC, 17-12. The Thorns also recorded six shots on goal and 13 shots inside the box.
Gotham FC had four corner kicks to the Thorns' three.
Portland FC will next play Sept. 6 versus Washington. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. EDT at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon.
Vignola played
for the Lady Vols from 2016-19 and earned All-SEC Second Team honors in 2019. She was named All-SEC First Team in 2019.
